The United States is getting more dangerous. Communities with no history or apparent vulnerability to violence have suffered mass shootings. More than 300 mass shootings in the first 6 months of 2022. The Center for Disease Control lists firearm injury as the most common cause of death among children and teenagers.
I support the already successful, heroic efforts of Mission Viejo law enforcement, fire, rescue and emergency response departments. Regional, statewide and national agencies will be important extensions of our local resources should there be a major emergency. We must learn from tragedies in other communities. Mission Viejo must have the best trained, best equipped and best organized response. Let us advocate frequent simulated responses to be sure every resource is ready when seconds count.
I support changes in laws that will make it less likely that Mission Viejo will be attacked by a person who never should have had access to firearms in the first place.
